Today I learned a lot about negotiating money and pay as an employee. We chatted about what pay rates for designers are reasonable for todays industry. I have done some research by looking through job listing etc. to get a better idea of what is good base pay for me as a designer while still making a living. We further discussed how to best negotiate a raise from an employer. David explained that every employer has a “pain point”, something that is hard for them, a problem that they can’t solve. When you asked about a raise, you should talk about how you can help them with the problem, ease their daily stress, and show them how paying you more would ease that pain point. This is a great way to negotiate more pay and help your current company + employer at the same time.
