Today was excellent. I went into the office and had my first one on one training with David. We talked about expectations for digital ad design. I learned that a good digital spec ad has four things: message, picture, company, logo, and call to action. If the ad is too boring, it won’t catch the eye of the target audience. So I shouldn’t use black or fully solid background unless they are a bright color or I have a specific reason. The ads should also be clear on messaging and context. All the elements should work together to tell a quick story, entice the audience, and give them an opportunity to act by clicking an action button. We viewed real examples of good and bad digital ads. Surprisingly some great examples of well done ads come from fast food companies and Apple. They seem to have the formula down.
We also discussed my ads I worked on and submitted for approval last week. Many were already great and worked well. I learned that when it’s a small digital ad, it’s okay to take up as much space as possible to make the ad more useful and eye catching.
Finally I learned the basics of Google Web Designer. I watched part of a tutorial to learn how to make animated ads for the web. I’ll continue to learn the ropes of GWD and make my past ads and future ads more exciting through motion.
